Ok, time for a confession.
I'm a mess.
There that felt better. Try it - just say it out loud right where you are right now.
Take a deep breath and say it - "I'm a mess!"
Say it again! Say it again in a loud voice - "I'M A MESS!!!!"
There now doesn't that feel better? You know why, because it is the truth, we are all a mess. We know it but we do our very best to hide it because we are absolutely terrified that someone will find out wha t a mess we are and then they will do what we would do, they would run away and reject us. It's true, and many of us have experienced that very scenario and it is never easy and it always hurts. So we dress up, put on our best smile, try to put on our best poker face in the times of trials and we legitimately try to CON OUR WAY THROUGH LIFE! But the truth is, we are a mess and the greater truth is that God knows and loves us anyway.
So it leaves us with the reality that we need to stop trying to cover our mess, but instead we need to look honestly at our mess and begin to pray that God will help us reconcile the mess and begin the journey of becoming the cleaned up version of ourselves that He sees us becoming. We need to adopt His vision for our lives even when it is counterintuitive to the world that our culture defines. We still need to go on the only journey that matter, the journey with Him.
However, we can not reconcile the mess that we are without a commitment to get to know Christ and that must include the beginning of a discipline of reading our Bible and prayer. The reality of these practices in our lives is not just a religious order of things to do so that we achieve or maintain salvation, on the contrary, these are the the things that we MUST do BECAUSE we are saved and have committed to a relationship with God.
Without faith, it impossible to please God and without discipline it is impossible to know God.
You have begun the journey by admitting that you are a mess. Right now pray, "Father I am a mess, but I am willing to follow you. Help me to find the discipline I need to know you more and I thank you for seeing the beautiful mess that I am . Helme become everything You have designed me to be. For Your honor and Glory, Amen. "
